The residential oasis in westernmost Porto
Aldoar isn't one of Porto's best-known areas — and that's exactly what makes it special. Its strongly residential character and distance from tourist pressure make it a valued choice for those seeking quality of life without giving up proximity to the centre.
Aldoar is part of the Aldoar — Foz do Douro — Nevogilde parish, but stands clearly apart from the coastal area: it's a predominantly residential zone, organised around Parque da Cidade — Portugal's largest urban park — and established neighbourhoods such as António Aroso and Vilarinha. It combines low-density houses and buildings with its own urban diversity, from the Cooperativa dos Arquitectos to renovated social housing.
Location and surroundings
Bordering Avenida da Boavista and a short distance from Serralves, Aldoar offers the comfort of being almost on the edge of the city's bustle without being far from the heart of Porto. It is a deliberately low-commerce area, which keeps traffic and noise in check.
Transport
Aldoar has no metro station of its own, but is served by several STCP bus lines connecting to central Porto and Avenida da Boavista. Good road access — including the VCI ring road and the A28 — makes a car a practical option for those working in other parts of the city or the wider metropolitan area.
Shops, services and education
The area has what's needed for daily life — a health centre, supermarkets, bakeries and small local businesses — without the commercial density of more central areas. In exchange, it is surrounded by leading institutions: CLIP — Oporto International School, Colégio do Rosário, Universidade Lusíada and Hospital CUF are all nearby.
